West End Tire Environmental Initiatives

West End Tire has a truck tire retread plant in Winnipeg. Retreading is also known as “recap’, or “remold” which is a re-manufacturing process for tires that replaces the tread on worn truck tires. Tread rubber is applied to casings of worn tires that have been inspected and repaired. It preserves about 90% of the material in worn tires and material cost is about 20% compared to manufacturing a new tire.

Retreading is very environmentally friendly. Retreading conserves oil. The synthetic rubber components in a new truck tire contains 83 litres of oil. Retreading the same tires uses only 26 litres of oil. Every year in Canada, the use of retreads saves millions of litres of oil. Millions of tires that would end up in tire piles or landfills continue their useful lives for thousands of kilometer more.

Tire Stewardship Recycling

West End Tire is a proud member of the Tire Stewardship of Manitoba (TSM) organization. TSM is a non-profit industry organization formed to manage the scrap tire recycling program on behalf of tire recyclers in Manitoba. For more information see www.tirestewardshipmb.ca or visit our Facebook page for tire recycling ideas.

OTR Tire Repairs

Costly disposal of scrap tires is a recognized industry problem. West End Tire repair solutions dramatically extend life spans and can make a real impact. This too keep tires out of landfills.
